14 Weeks (October 27th – November 2nd)

I’m 4 inches CRL and weigh 2.5 oz. My heart is pumping about 25 quarts of blood a day!

This week we had a prenatal doctor’s appointment. The baby’s heart rate was strong and in the 140s. My blood pressure was good and my weight went down again (the doctor says it is ok as long as I am eating when I am hungry and taking my vitamins, he also said that pregnancy can increase metabolism). For my next appointment (December 3rd), I have to take a 1 hour glucose test for gestational diabetes. Basically, I have to chug this really nasty version of fruit punch one hour before the appointment. Once I get there, they do blood work to test my sugar levels. I am praying that I don’t fail the test because it would definitely put a serious damper on Christmas! The next appointment we also get an ultrasound to check all the major organs and determine gender…yay!

We also had some visitors this week! Tony’s parents, along with his brother came down for a visit over Halloween weekend.

Baby’s First NASCAR Race:
We went to the Sprint Cup NASCAR Race this week in Talladega, AL with Tony’s dad and brother. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, but the temperature was chilly with the wind blowing. The race was pretty uneventful until the end with two big crashes living up to the Talladega reputation. In the end, Jamie McMurray in the #26 was the winner. All in all, it was a long but fun day!

I have always heard of other people’s crazy ‘pregnancy brain’ stories. However, I figured being pregnant couldn’t affect your memory and thinking skills THAT much, plus I am a fairly intelligent person, right? Well, I am barely in my 2nd trimester and I have some doozy pregnancy brain moments already! Examples:

1. One morning before work, I parked my vehicle and started walking into the building until I realized that I left the vehicle still running and unlocked. I can imagine trying to explain that to my husband and insurance agency!!!

2. I called a co-worker of mine on the phone. While it was ringing, I started thinking about other things. When the person finally answered, I forgot who I was even talking to.

3. This is by far the worst – I went into the bathroom at work, locked the stall, and sat down on the toilet…with my pants still on! Thank God I didn’t start going, but who sits down on the toilet without pulling their pants down first?!

Craving:
Chocolate Milk

13 Weeks (October 20th - 26th)

I'm 3.5 CRL and weigh 1.5 oz. I'm practicing smiling, grimacing, frowning, & squinting!

I did the Intelligender test (over the counter gender prediction kit) this week. The directions said that women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) should avoid using it because of the high probability for inaccurate boy results. However, since I have a very mild case of PCOS, I decided to do it anyway! To me, the results were hard to tell because the liquid at eye level (where you’re supposed to read the results) was orange (girl), but the crystals at the bottom were green (boy). I sent a picture of the results to the company and they replied that it was a GIRL result! We shall see for sure on November 25th when we get our next ultrasound.

We set up a game online so our family and friends can guess the gender, weight, height, and birth date/time for our baby! To participate, go to: http://www.expectnet.com/games/BabySpencer2010 or enter BabySpencer2010 as the game name in the space indicated on the home page.

I dragged Tony to a maternity clothing store this week. They had a fake pregnancy belly that you could try on underneath the clothes...that proved to be good entertainment for the evening! It is also funny to me that they just so happened to place the maternity store right next to the cookie store….coincidence? I think not!

New Symptom:
Headaches

12 Weeks (October 13th - 19th)

I’m 3 inches CRL and weigh one ounce. My tiny unique fingerprints and all 20 teeth are formed!

The last week, I have started to get my appetite back and I was pretty sure that I hadn’t lost anymore weight. Sure enough, I got on the scale and actually gained 4 lbs back of the 11 lbs that I had lost since I found out I was pregnant.

I ordered some maternity clothes this week. I don’t think I am quite to the point that I need them yet, but I wanted to order them early to make sure things were going to fit and have time to exchange sizes if I needed to. Plus, I have to build a diverse maternity wardrobe since I will be pregnant through winter and spring.

Grandpa and Grammy Hoisington purchased the crib/changing combo this week from JCPenney. They were going to wait longer, but my mom noticed that the one we wanted was put on clearance and she was afraid they might discontinue it. The crib actually coverts to a daybed and/or toddler bed, so they purchased the bedrails too. Click here to see the crib! Thanks Mom & Dad!

It was decided that we will be serving breakfast food for the baby shower. So far on the menu we have banana bread, fruit, cheese/egg/sausage casserole, hashbrown casserole, sausage croissants, crepes, and petit fours.

We are planning on finding out the gender of the baby at 18 weeks. However, the shower invitations will not be gender specific and guests won’t know if it is a boy or girl until they show up to the shower.

Next week I will be taking this test from Wallgreens called Intelligender. It is an over the counter gender prediction kit. Basically, I pee in a cup, add crystals from the kit and depending on what color it turns, it tells you if it is a boy or girl (Green = Boy & Orange = Girl). Even though it is just for fun, we will post the results next week!

New Symptom:
Cramping legs - Siatic nerve pain

11 Weeks (October 6th - 12th)

I'm 2 inches CRL and weigh half an ounce. I can swallow and my tiny tooth buds are forming!

The secret is out! Tony and I notified the masses via Facebook.
My message stated: “First came love, then came marriage, and now comes a baby in a baby carriage.” Tony’s message was: “My wife and I are like a can of spaghetti sauce……..Prego!” Our families and bosses already knew, but we just couldn’t wait to share the news with everyone else!

My mom has booked the clubhouse in their condo complex for the baby shower on Sunday, December 27th. I hate to have it so close to Christmas, but it is really the only option for us if we want to have it in Michigan.

I know it is early, but we started our registry online this week. I wanted to get a jump on it since we are a little overwhelmed with all of the baby stuff out there. Seriously, who knew there were like 127 different kinds of bottles?! We decided we’re going to register at Babies 'R' Us and Burlington Coat Factory for sure and maybe Target (however, I’ve heard horror stories about their registry).

I refilled my last prescription of Progesterone this week! October 13th will be the last day that I have to take the suppositories. From then on, the placenta takes over and there is no need for the hormone supplements….YAY!

New Symptom:
Snug Pants! Since I have actually lost weight, I know it is all belly

10 Weeks (September 29th - October 5th)

I’m 1.5 inches & weigh 1/4 oz; the irises of my eyes, my hair, & fingernails are developing.

We went to our second prenatal appointment today. Kristina was weighed and actually lost 7 lbs from the time we found out we were pregnant and her blood pressure was good. We didn't get to have an ultrasound done, but the nurse was able to find the baby's heartbeat on the doppler. The heartrate ranged between 130 - 140. She commented on the old wives tale that lower than 140 indicates a boy! No bloodwork had to be done this appointment...YAY!

Our next appointment will be October 29th.
