5 Weeks (August 25th - 31st)

Right now we are focusing on positive thoughts, healthy eating, rest, taking a daily prenatal vitamin, and taking the Progesterone suppliments as prescribed. We can't wait for our first prenatal appointment for that extra reassurance and piece of mind!

We feel so blessed to be pregnant and we would be happy with either a boy or a girl. However, most of the people that are in on our little secret have said that they think we’re going to have a boy. I must confess that I actually have that feeling too!

We might be getting way ahead of ourselves, but we do already have names picked out for both a boy and girl:
Boy – Bryce Anthony Spencer
Girl – Lydia Kristine Spencer

Pregnancy Symptoms New This Week:
Acne
Gas
Bloated
Cold Hands & Feet

4 Weeks (August 18th - 24th)

The shock that I am actually pregnant still hasn’t completely sunk in. I am afraid to get excited because it is still so early.

I was able to get into the doctor the day of my positive pregnancy tests (8/18/09). They did blood work and confirmed that I was a “smidge” pregnant and that I did indeed have low Progesterone. The nurse told me my level was at a 13.9 and they would like it to be in the 20s. So, I was prescribed Progesterone suppositories 3 times a day (yikes!).

I went back in for more blood work two days later (9/20/09) to see if my levels increased, which they did. The nurse told me that my levels looked "great" and that everything doubled like it should have. She told me to continue with the suppositoies three times a day through the weekend (8/23/09). From then, I will decrease them down to two times a day until my first prenatal appointment.

My first prenatal appointment is scheduled for 9/3/09 at 9:00 am. At thatpoint, I will be approximately 6 Weeks and 2 Days along!

Pregnancy Symptoms So Far:
*Heightened Sense of Smell (extreme!)
Sore Ta-Tas
**Changes in Appetite
Tiredness (allthetime)
Minor Cramps/Pulling Sensions/Twinges
Peeing A LOT!!!

*I still have my hyper-sensitive bionic nose. Of all the super powers that I ever wished for, super smell was not one of them! I seriously think I could smell a fart over a mile away right now!

**I am craving Lays Sour Cream and Onion potato chips constantly. I also discovered a love for bean dip (and I don’t even like refried beans)! This week, I took a bite of a regular glazed donut (one of my favs) and it tasted funny (and not a good funny). I guess you won’t have to worry about me at Krispy Kreme for the next 9 months!

How We Found Out (August 18th)

I was supposed to start my cycle yesterday or the day before (it varies) and it still hadn’t showed up this morning. I had no doubt in my mind that it was late due to the fact that I have been off my medication for two complete months now and I shouldn’t even be ovulating. I had a pretty expensive digital EPT home pregnancy test that I had been saving for a confirmation if I ever got a positive on a cheapie two line test. However, it was about to expire and I didn’t want to waste it, so I used it. To be honest, I really didn’t think about it while I was going on with my morning routine. While I was brushing my teeth, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed it had the results up. It said “PREGNANT” clear as day. I thought, “Oh my God, I am pregnant!”

I just have to say that I always had all these cute ideas for how I was going to tell Tony when I found out I was pregnant. I wasn’t going to tell him right away and instead do a surprise for him to find out. Well…that went out the window!

After I stared at the positive result, I started squealing and jumping up and down. Tony came into the hallway thinking there was a bug in the bathroom or something. I was waving the stick around and he still couldn’t tell what I was all excited about (I didn’t even tell him I was going to take the test). When he finally saw it, he got this huge smile, nodded his head, and gave me a big bear hug.

He told me that there was a pregnancy test left in his bathroom (I didn’t know it was there). It was a cheapie dollar store test, but it came out positive too. I was amazed, “so this is what positive pregnancy tests looks like?!”

By the time I came out of the bathroom from taking the second test, Tony had already called in a half day to work (this is when I realized just how excited he was). I laughed and told him I didn’t even know if I could get into the doctor yet!

I definitely want to get into the doctor today because I am afraid I might have low Progesterone (hormone needed to sustain pregnancy) due to the fact that it had been low in the past and I wasn’t taking my medicine anymore.

Our Trying to Conceive Story

Tony and I decided to begin the trying to conceive journey in Spetember 2008. By November, I had visited the doctor and been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS was making my body insulin resistent, which was hindering me from ovulating. The doctor put me on Glucophage and I had to get blood work done once a month to test my insulin levels and ovulation. Since we still hadn't conceived by May 2009, the doctor decided to put me on the fertility drug, Clomid. I tried Clomid in June with no success. We had a vacation planned in July and decided we just wanted to take that month off from the medicine and trying to conceive. I then decided to go to school to get my Master's degree in the fall, so we were going to put off the baby plans until I finished school.

God had different plans for us...

On our second month off from trying to conceive, we got pregnant! We feel so blessed to be having a baby of our own and we can't wait to share the news with our family/friends!
